Retningslinjen er utarbeidet av styret i PedSAFE og har tatt utgangspunkt i prosedyrer fra ulike barneavdelinger i Norge. Retningslinjen er skrevet på bakgrunn av et felles behov og etter initiativ fra Norsk barnelegeforenings Kvalitetsutvalg. Retningslinjen har vært på høring til alle barneavdelinger som bruker PedSAFE.

Første versjon av retningslinjen ble publisert 21.06.17. Det nasjonale PedSAFE styret ble avviklet i 2020 og revisjon av retningslinjen har ikke blitt utført siden revisjon etter innspill på nasjonal nettverkskonferanse 08.02.18. Det er nå Norsk barnelegeforenings Kvalitetsutvalg som er ansvarlig for revisjoner. Gjennomlest/videreført 27.12.22.
